Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where are you located? We are located at 559 N 1200 E in Mapleton, not far from Mapleton Junior High.
  • Can parents stay for the lesson? Of course! And if you bring non-swimming children with you, please be aware that you are responsible for them at all times.
  • How long are your lessons? 45 minutes

  • How big are your classes? Our standard class size is 4 children for standard classes, and 5 children for Parent/Child. We don't do classes larger than that, and generally classes will fill up.  Special needs classes are our only classes that are smaller, and offer a 1/1 student/teacher ratio.

  • What are your qualifications? I am a Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructor. Lessons with young children are also overseen by a Red Cross Certified Lifeguard and assisted by a Red Cross Certified Assistant. All personnel is also American Heart Association CPR Certified.
  • How do I  pay?  Payment for lessons is due one month prior to your child's first lesson. If payment is not received by that time, your spot can potentially be given to someone on the wait list, though we will absolutely do our best to contact you before taking that step.  For your convenience, you may pay through Venmo (@Jennifer-Halversen) or by cash or check (559 N 1200 E Mapleton)
  • How old should children be to to start swim lessons? Children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years should enroll in the Parent/Child class. To register for independent lessons, children need to be at least 4 years old.
  • What if I have children who are not at the same level, but I want them to take lessons at the same time? For the most part, children need to be near the same level to take lessons together. But we do the best we can to accommodate siblings, friends, or cousins who wish to take lessons together.
  • What if I have to cancel after I have paid? You may cancel up to one month before class and still receive a full refund. If you cancel within one month, no refund will be offered, but you may apply the money toward lessons later in the summer if spots are available to re-register your child. If you cancel once classes have begun, or you are a no show, no refund will be offered. But of course, we will always take special circumstances like illness or a death in the family into account.
  • What if I miss a day of lessons? As a general rule, no individual make-up lessons will be offered. If you feel you have a special circumstance, please feel free to talk with me and we'll see what we can do.
  • What temperature is the water? Depending on the weather and time of day, water is kept between 86 and 90 degrees. We work hard to make sure the water is comfortable for the children.
  • What if the weather is bad? If lessons cannot be held due to inclement weather, a make-up day will be scheduled for your group.
  • Where do I park? When possible, please park in the driveway. This helps keep the city and the neighbors happy. If you need to park on the street, please do your best to park in front of my house.
  • What should my child bring to lessons? Please apply sunscreen before you arrive at your lesson, and bring a towel with you! Children are also welcome to bring goggles, though they may also use ours. Anything else we use in class (kick boards, diving rings etc.) will be provided.
  • How should I enter the back yard? Please use the SOUTH gate. That's the gate on your left when facing our front door. It should be open when you arrive.
  •  Does my child have to be potty trained? For all regular lessons, YES! Potty training is required for all children except those enrolled in the Parent/Child class. For Parent/Child classes, swim diapers are required.
